Your data stays yours

Firefly is built on a simple principle: your private thoughts belong to you, not to us, not to your school, and not to advertisers.

• End-to-end encryption: your entries are encrypted on your device before they ever reach our servers.
• No tracking cookies: we don't use third-party analytics or ad trackers.
• No data sales: we will never sell your data.
• Minimal retention: we keep only what's needed for the service to function.

FERPA compliance

Firefly operates as a student-directed service, not a school official under FERPA (20 U.S.C. § 1232g). This means:

• We do not share your information with schools or educational institutions without your explicit consent.
• Your vault is controlled by you, not by any institution.
• We do not maintain educational records as defined by FERPA.

What we collect

We store only what you explicitly provide: your encrypted entries, your Firefly ID, and your recovery phrase (which we cannot read). We do not collect browsing history, contacts, or location except when you explicitly activate SOS.
